Our story & team — SYZO
Our story

We were the landlords first

SYZO exists to prove HMO properties can be managed properly — consistent returns for investors, quality homes for tenants, professional standards throughout. We built the company to run our own multi-million pound portfolio, and now manage for others to exactly the same standard.

“There is no need to discover a niche or find a buzzword when shared housing is so needed yet done so badly. The secret is far simpler: consistent hot water, good beds, fast WiFi, and same-day response to maintenance issues.”

The team

Six people run SYZO

Founders, a finance director with 15+ years of institutional real estate, and a maintenance manager with 22 years on the tools.

How we got here

2016

Dom buys his first HMOs in Plymouth while acquiring rental assets for a family office. Frustrated by the management options available, he founds SYZO the following year as an HMO-focused asset manager.

2018–19

Alex and Theo join, bringing a private-equity exit's worth of hospitality operations and 30 renovations of engineering experience. The portfolio grows across Plymouth and into Newquay; an in-house maintenance team replaces contractors and the preventative visit cycle begins.

2022

Operations move onto the Coho platform with live compliance tracking and open-book reporting. Other landlords start asking SYZO to run their properties.

2023

Dave joins full-time and in-house as Maintenance Manager, having run multiple HMO renovations for SYZO since 2018 — locking in a wealth of hands-on experience.

2025

Ian and Verity join — Ian bringing institutional finance experience from KPMG, AEW Capital Management and IMMO Capital; Verity taking on lettings and community management across the portfolio.

2026

Over 200 units under management across two cities — a 1-day average void, 11.5-month average tenancy and a 5/5 tenant review score. Next: the rest of the UK.

The record 96% occupancy, 4.9% repairs & maintenance and a 5/5 tenant score — see the numbers behind the operation.
